Hampton man sent to prison for 30 years for sexually abusing child

HAMPTON, IOWA – A Hampton man who previously said he’s not guilty of sexually abusing a child has been found guilty and sent to prison for 30 years.

After an investigation, on April 20, 2017, 72-year-old Michael Lynn Rodemeyer Sr. of Hampton was arrested and charged with two counts of Second Degree Sexual abuse, Class B Felonies by the Hampton Police Department and One count of Second Degree Sexual Abuse a Class B Felony and One Count of Third Degree Sexual Abuse a Class C Felony by the Franklin County Sheriff’s Office.

The charges stemmed from incidents that occurred over a two year period in Hampton and rural Franklin County against a child. The Hampton police department and the Frankling county sheriff’s department were assisted in the investigation by the Department of Human Services and the Child Protection Center.

At an earlier arraignment, Rodemeyer entered a not-guilty plea. However, he was eventually guilty of three charges of felony C third-degree sexual abuse, leading to the 30-year prison sentence.

Records show Rodemeyer is also facing a sex abuse charge in Hamilton county.
