I don’t get why matt is running for office. he’s not a team player , he makes enemies of citizens and voters… and he hates Mason City. He wants to keep it stuck in a smelly rut. Nothing ventured nothing gained. He’s like trump. he wants the chr but not the work…
Mr. Candidate Marquardt: We hope that you are documenting each and every time you use this “publication” to advance your political point of view on any matter related to the business of Mason City. Those running against you are placed at an unfair advantage unless you provide grant them with equal time to present their perspective. So says Iowa Campaign Ethics Laws.
For the moment let’s set financial questions aside. Who are the members of your campaign committee Mr. Marquardt?
“We” who? Any candidate or citizen for that matter can freely contribute to NIT at anytime – you know the rules here. Comments are welcomed on any post, there is no hindrance from me in any way to anyone. Opinion pieces are always considered for publication. If you want to see my actual campaign, go to my Facebook page or my website.
Should probably take the time to look up actual laws before posting erroneous articles.
Ballot issues have different laws than candidate campaigns.

5 seconds of Googling could have prevented shoddy journalism.
Signs in city-owned areas are illegal. Go back and read the page you linked to again.

Will you be publishing your campaign financial disclosure information here Matt? If so when might we expect that to happen?
All that will be on the Campaign Disclosure website for the state of Iowa, just like is required of all candidates. That being said, this thread is about the illegal signs all over town, so, stay on topic and try to beat your ADD (meds).
Thank you Mr. Marquardt. I just wanted to be assured that you would publish the same degree of disclosure as you did in regard to our current Mayor’s campaign. I remember page after page of information and that was so very helpful to us voters.
That reply will pull in the votes.
Getta life!! Better yet – Leave!
NIT is registered as a corporation, aren’t they? I remember seeing a sign for Matt outside it. Thanks for this information! I’ll give the Ethics committee a call.
NIT is not a corporation. It’s parent company is, though, which is owned by me. I have no signs in my business property for my campaign. I placed my campaign signs in yards where the inhabitants actually gave me permission to do so – which is more than I can say for other candidates and proponents of this downtown project.
Would you have run again had Janet Solberg sought re-election? Do you fear her as a campaign adversary?
No reason left to comment on Solberg, Bookmeyer, any of those types, as they are nearly completely irrelevant and will soon be put out to pasture like pre-Prestage hogs.
Except they are voluntarily leaving of their own accord. They never lost an election. They retire undefeated. That has to mean something to you. Doesn’t it?
They will soon be memories of a bad nightmare.
It’s clear to many citizens, this group is leaving office in shame. Shame for being terrified to debate, shame for taking a pay cut due to their total disaster leadership, shame for four long years of lies and mis-management of a hotel deal gone way, way, bad, shame for having nostrils that cannot detect the most odious of scents (piggy doo doo lolz), shame for their attractions to booze and secret meetings, shame for their lawsuits that cost the taxpayers hundred$ of thousand$, shame for bullying citizens at every turn, shame for being the laughingstock of every coffee house in town. Look, even a roach finds a cozier home after the Orkin man sprays the hovel. No different here.
How about pictures of the illegal Marquardt campaign sign outside NIT headquarters (a corporation).
There’s no sign there. Drove by days ago and this morning.
Wow, Matt really flamed these yessers. They all hysterical, wantin that arena and snazzy hotel real, real bad. Sensitive types. Vicious too. They grab you good and drag you in the back for a scoldin maybe a lot more. Beware voter fraud on this one they unlegal on signs wont stop at nothin.
Is not illegal to put a sign out on your own property.
I too noticed these yes signs springing up in places that make no sense. They are putting them up willy-nilly. Wasteful.
Schickel must be paying people to put his signs in their yards along the highway. I’ve also noticed the 40th anniversary signs for Oak Leaf Comics are being put up illegal. They are in the medians along the highway and along the highway in between the road and the sidewalk.
BFD
It is a big deal when you use property for political gain when it is against the law to use public property. Just shows how desperate the corrupt yes folks are!
Most of the ones I’ve seen are on rental property along the highway on city property.
Again, nothing positive to say, or should I say mumble.
