MASON CITY – A fire gutted a storage building Tuesday morning in Mason City.
The location of the fire was at the former Carroll Sales building, 600 4th Street SW. Sometime after midnight, the building became fully engulfed in flames. Fire departments from around the area joined the Mason City fire department in battling the blaze. Those emergency responders apparently were successful in keeping the fire containing enough so as not to damage surrounding buildings.
The Mason City fire department said in a statement “Early this morning the MCFD responded to a fire at the old Carroll Sales building; we are happy to report that there were no injuries from this fire. A big thanks to Manly Volunteer Fire & Rescue, Rockwell Community Fire Department and Clear Lake Fire Department for their mutual aid.”
The owner of the building, Tim Latham, told NIT this morning that the building is a “complete loss”. He says that he and some of his employees have been cleaning the building out, as he had recently purchased it earlier this year. Mr. Latham is fully insured and agreed that the area could be re-built, potentially. He had planned to use the building as storage in connection to his nearby furniture store, Furniture Mattress Outlet.
