Boy struck by stray bullet from gun range while picking apples in Nashua

NASHUA, IOWA – A stray bullet from a gun range struck a boy who was picking apples in an orchard Sunday afternoon.

According to law enforcement in Chickasaw county, a boy was at the Apples on the Avenue orchard Sunday afternoon was a bullet fired from a nearby gun range struck him. He was airlifted to a Waverly hospital in unknown condition and then transferred to University of Iowa hospital.

According to Apples on the Avenue, “An unfortunate accident occurred at our orchard today, in which a child was seriously injured and transported to the hospital. The Chickasaw County Sheriff’s Office is currently investigating. We are praying for the family and invite everyone to do the same.”

Later, it was disclosed that the bullet allegedly was fired from the Nashua Fish and Game Club, and the “Club and ranges are closed until further notice.”

The Iowa Division of Criminal Investigation and other law enforcement agencies are assisting in the on-going investigation, which includes the gathering of evidence.
