MASON CITY – An Illinois man now calling Clear Lake his home who committed a child molestation in Mason City in 2015 has taken a plea deal in the case and was set free.
Mason City police tell NIT that a child molestation was reported on November 28, 2016 to the Mason City police department. “The act(s) occurred prior in Mason City,” a police spokesman said, and court records show the crime was committed on February 26, 2015. Police investigated the report and applied for an arrest warrant on January 10, 2017 for 29-year-old Sean Anthony Dright alleging that he committed a crime of Class C Felony Lascivious Acts with a Child and felony second-degree sexual abuse. Dright was arrested on February 21, 2017 in Princeton, Illinois by Bureau County law enforcement and then transported to the Cerro Gordo county jail.
Dright later pled guilty to just to a charge of lascivious acts with a child. He was put on probation for 2 years, given a suspended fin and prison sentence, and placed on the states’s sex offender registry. The registry shows Dright now lives in Clear Lake.

How does society know that this man is really guilty of this crime….society is so screwed up that court systems in iowa dont give african americans a real right for freedom of speech. How does society know that this man was tried fairly? Society now a days looks at situations like this and automatically thinks “guilty”!!! Just cause someone pleads “guilty” to a crime like this…how do u know that this man was given a chance to fight for his rights…im not excusing the fact that sexual acts against a child is wrong but if you dont know the facts behind the case…you cant comment on something you have no clue about. It looks like he was given the opportunity to take a plea deal to lessor charges so the more serious charges were dropped. Am I wrong in thinking that since he took a plea deal, he did not go to court to face his charges? Looks like he didn’t have to fight for his rights. He admitted to the charges by taking a plea. Too bad for the child in this case. No justice for them, just the realization that grown men can abuse them and not much will happen to them.
I admire your comments about racism and how African Americans are affected but than I’m sad that your defending a admitted child molester. I can see someone pleading guilty to stealing something or trespass but not this. This is the most heinous crime an adult can commit. If he goes to prison his life is in danger. I am so sick and tired of these criminals “pleading down to a lessor offense”. To many times criminals are let off with a slap on the hand! Where is the justice for the victim?! Where is the accountability for the perp? I was raised in age of “if you did the crime, you paid the consequence”. We need to go back to that. The council that pleads these cases down need to be publicized, so that the public knows who they are to boycott and the judges need to be listed and the cases they were lenient on, especially during voting years. If there were a huge public outcry to our Senators and government maybe there would finally be stronger laws and NO pleading down to a lessor offense. You may say, “What about if the accused is innocent?” Those cases are very few and far between. They can be dealt with on retrial. For once think of the victim! They are the ones we should be concerned about!
