Mason City man with history of domestic violence sent to prison

MASON CITY – A Mason City man with a history of domestic violence has been sent to prison after his latest felony crime.

Mason City police were called to a residence in the 900 block of 10th Street NE on Monday, May 15, 2017. Officers arrived at about 6:14 PM to investigate a domestic disturbance. After an investigation, they arrested 41-year-old Richard Ross Lee, who lived nearby at the time. Lee was charged with felony domestic abuse assault involving strangulation, third-or subsequent domestic abuse assault and serious assault causing injury.

Later, Lee pled guilty to only one charge – felony domestic abuse assault involving strangulation. He was sentenced to up to 5 years in prison, given a suspended fine, and must pay $2,195.50 to Iowa courts.

Richard Ross Lee has faced drug and alcohol violations for years from numerous counties in Iowa. He has been accused of several felonies, including felony third or subsequent offense domestic assault, but always taken plea deals to lesser crimes. Back in 2014, Lee allegedly took part in a “large fight” at a Clear Lake nightclub and was arrested. He was later guilty of disorderly conduct – fighting or violent behavior.
