MASON CITY – Law enforcement conducted a drug sweep at a Mason City apartment complex recently and found nothing.
The sweep for illegal substances was conducted on the afternoon of September 6 at the Autumn Park Apartments, located at 710 South Pierce Avenue.
According to Mason City Chief of Police Jeff Brinkley, Mason City “police officers and Task Force Officers were following up on a request from management related to suspicious activity.”
Chief Brinkley tells NIT that “No contraband was found and no charges were filed.”
Just to clarify, this is not invading anyone’s privacy, they did not go into anyone’s apartment. It was legally done because it was the task force with police officers.
So if they didn’t enter any apartments, what did they search?

Don’t forget that landlords have to worry about the disorderly premises ordinance that was enacted a few years ago. If there are complaints about suspicious activity, the landlord has to see that it comes to a stop or he will be fined. You are the same people who complain about the crappy landlords in town and then you blast one who is trying to keep a place decent.

People should have the right to privacy in their own homes without having to worry about police violating that privacy just because the landlord ASSUMES there is illegal activity. This is the stripping away at constitutional rights and loss of freedom which will quickly become a police state governed by totalitarians if it continues this way. I’m sure u don’t understand the feeling of being violated by having your property searched for no just reason, so u are probably not able to empathize (understand another persons feelings by feeling the same feelings yourself). Even if there was a reason behind this “bad info”, the feeling of being violated is nothing nice. To have someone go through all of your personal private belongings sucks, especially if you’ve done nothing wrong or illegal. I know you probably can’t imagine the feeling, but if someone called the police and said you were up to no good and they searched your property, you wouldn’t be pleased with the whole situation. The typical response from someone like you would be,”i wouldn’t care, because i don’t do anything illegal!”, but trust me, if it ever happened to you, i bet YOUR life that you would be out for blood!

I live down the street and its pretty suspicious. Not to mention that police and rescue are there at least once a week, fire or ambulance probably once a month. But I think a lot of this “suspicious traffic” is the house across the street.
