MASON CITY – The annual Civil War re-enactment returns to East Park this weekend in Mason City.
The Mason City Civil War Reeenactment will take place in East Park, September 8th through the 10th. It is free to the public and there is something for everyone. The battle that is being reenacted this year is the Battle of Iuka, Mississippi. The battle will be re-enacted on Saturday and Sunday afternoon. Those who attend can see medical demonstrations, camp life, live music, a military dress ball, ladies tea, a pirates’ treasure hunt and more.
There is a dance provided by the Camp Follower’s band on Saturday night. The soldiers are available all weekend in their camps to visit with people about what it was like during the Civil War. Food vendors will be on site, as well.
Nobody whining here – just the good old boys making fun of the political correct snowflakes. Hollywood sold all the movie rights for The Dukes of Hazard to the Clinton Foundation . Boss Hogg got his cut.

If we get rid of, destroy, hide, cover up, etc. everything that bothers everybody we won’t have anything left. It is a reenactment of history and the flag was part of it. Do you want them to use a flag covered in butterflies instead. No wait, that might offend someone. I think it’s time for the politically correct to take their diversity and their values and find an island to go live on so they can all be happy.

Its not about political correctness its about reality. Will we defend statues honoring the Japanese for the attack on Pearl Harbor? And argue for monuments of those who committed an act of war by flying planes into the World Trade Center. The Confederate Warships who attacked Fort Sumter was an act of unprovoked war. They were the enemy of this Nation and should not memorialized.

Historical accuracy, good or bad, needs to be preserved in things like books, movies, and yes even reenactments.
This is imperative for future generations to learn, and again, the good and the bad. This would include the Confederate flag as it was a part of history.
However there is absolutely no place for that flag or Confederate statues to be displayed on any Federal, State or any public property. That is afront to liberty & our country as the Confederacy was an abomination. It needs to be preserved for history’s sake and lessons learned, but not glorified for what it stood for.
