Iowa Public Information Board selects Mary Ungs-Sogaard, Chair; Renee Twedt, Vice-Chair; and appoints Margaret Johnson as Executive Director

DES MOINES – The Iowa Public Information Board (IPIB) met on Thursday, July 20;20.17. At the meeting, the Board elected Mary Ungs-Sogaard, Dyersville, Iowa as Chair for the 2017-2018 fiscal year. Also elected as Vice-Chair was Renee Twedt, Story City, Iowa. Both will serve in these roles for the next year.

Mary Ungs-Sogaard was appointed to the IPIB by Governor Branstad in 2016 as a media representative on the Board. Her term ends in 2020. She is the publisher of the Dyersville Commercial, Cascade Pioneer, and the Manchester Press. She lives in Dyersville.

Renee Twedt was appointed to the IPIB by Governor Branstad in 2016 as a government representative on the Board. Her term ends in 2020. She is currently the Story County Treasurer and lives in Story City.

The Iowa Public Information Board also appointed Margaret Johnson, an attorney from West Des Moines to serve as its Executive Director. She has been the Interim Executive Director since December 2016. Johnson has worked for the IPIB since 2013 as the Deputy Director. She is a graduate of Iowa State University and the Marshall/Wythe Law School at the College of Willian & Mary. Prior to joining the IPIB, Johnson was the Fremont County Attorney and a contract prosecutor for the Iowa Attorney Disciplinary Board.
