DNR completes Operation Dry Water campaign

Clear Lake boater

DES MOINES – The Iowa Department of Natural Resources Law Enforcement Bureau participated in the national Operation Dry Water campaign June 30 – July 2.

The goal of the campaign was to raise awareness about the dangers of boating while under the influence and promote safety while boating.

During the three-day enforcement operation, 153 officers participated, spending more than 1,800 hours making contact with 1,463 vessels and 5,808 boaters. Six Boating While Intoxicated (BWI) arrests were made and 478 citations/warnings were issued.

“We stress the dangers boating while under the influence of drugs or alcohol,” said Jeff Swearngin, DNR law enforcement bureau chief. “It is no different than driving a vehicle under the influence; in fact, at times it can be more dangerous. It is a serious problem.”

As always, the DNR reminds boaters to boat sober, always wear your life jacket and take a boating safety educational course.

Officers spent time at Okoboji, Clear Lake, Saylorville, Coralville Reservoir/Lake MacBride, Lake Delhi and both the Missouri and Mississippi rivers.

The DNR Conservation Officers were assisted by Arnolds Park Police Department, Louisa County Sheriff’s Office, Clayton County Sheriff’s Office, Johnson County Sheriff’s Office, DNR Park Rangers, U.S. Army Corps of Engineers, Polk County Conservation Board, U.S. Fish and Wildlife Services, Illinois DNR and Wisconsin DNR.

Nomnuts – I believe it involves the dnr ? You need to watch fox news – 3/6/10 channels are fake news.

Google Adam Lack – Mitchell county Ia. Not for the faint of heart.

Interesting read! But what does this have to do with busting drunk boaters?

Loud bikers? Man are you a dimmwit Dimm – You just lived a state sponsored fire cracker 4th and a Harley passing you by for what 10 seconds bothers you – go back to your demorat safe space and leave the MEN alone. PS you should worry more about your polluted drinking water if I were. you.

Allen 1 Article ? You think the DNR wants this information out – 2 familys -Berg/Davis are trying to file lawsuits but that is a hard road when sueing a government agency – Leave your phone number and I am sure they will be willing to talk to you.

Thanks for the information, I get it now. The public needs to be aware of what’s going on in this situation. There is supposedly a limit that any one business/resident can draw down the aquifer. It sounds as if the DNR didn’t do their homework, and that’s why it needs to be made public. It not only effects the 3 properties in the area, but could possibly effect many more. I think back on the hog plant that was proposed south of mason city. If I can remember correctly, the hog plant proposed using at least one million (?) gallons a day. I don’t know how that compares to this situation, but that’s a lot of water…

I thought it was about the the rich bitch farmer that dug a well to irrigate his corn just south of the casino -DNR issued his permit – Now at least 3 properties in his area have NO drinking water because he lowered the aquifer with his humugus water usage for corn for ethanol – their properties are now useless as family dwellings. They want to thank to worthless DNR for destroying their livelyhood. DNR another government public service that is worthless and sometimes controlled by big business and corporations – what the hell you mean sometimes?

I haven’t heard anything about that, where can I find the article with that information, as I’d like to read it.

as always, the goal of this campaign was to raise $$$$
153 officers making North of 200.00 a day. Need lots of tickets for that

If they went after loud bikers with the same enthusiasm I would personally donate to the cause.

Id rather the biker be loud than dead. I bet you are one of the same people who love fireworks, and tell people to deal with them going off? Double standards.

No, we’d like the biker to follow the law and curb their noise pollution within the legal limits set

He is just a Greek sissy who can’t stand it that real men drive bikes.

LVS drives an electric wheelchair paid for by Medicaid.
