IOWA CITY – A motorcyclist slammed into a utility pole in Iowa City, and the fatal accident is now under investigation.
On Sunday, July 2, 2017, at approximately 11:33 p.m., the Iowa City Police Department was dispatched to the intersection of Burlington and Gilbert Streets to a report of a single motor vehicle collision involving a motorcycle that collided with a utility pole.
Upon arrival, it was determined that the driver of the motorcycle was deceased due to the severity of the injuries that were sustained. Over the course of the investigation, Gilbert Street traffic was rerouted with normal traffic reopening at 5:11 a.m. on Monday, July 3.
The name of the driver is not being released at this time. This matter remains under investigation by Iowa City Police traffic collision investigators.
The Iowa City Police Department was assisted by the Johnson County Ambulance Service, the Iowa City Fire Department, the Johnson County Medical Examiner’s Office, and the Iowa State Patrol.
