FOREST CITY – The mayor of Nora Springs was cited recently for illegal sale of fireworks.

On May 18, 2017 at 9:11 AM, George Karl Andersen, age 68 of Nora Springs was charged with Illegal Sale of Fireworks. Forest City police say the charges were a result of a report of someone selling fireworks out of their vehicle at a business on Highway 69 N.

Mr. Andersen, who is listed as the mayor of Nora Springs, pled guilty two days later and was ordered to pay $397.50 in fines and court fees.

Iowa law, recently amended by the Republican-controlled state legislature, legalizes the retail sale of consumer fireworks in permanent buildings between June 1 and July 8.  Also, between December 10 and January 3.  Fireworks can also be sold in temporary structures between June 13 and July 8.
