Mason City man flees accident in Charles City

CHARLES CITY – A Mason City man fled an accident scene in which he ran into a motorcyclist, but police caught hm soon thereafter and took him to jail.

On Monday, May 29 at 11:36 AM, the Charles City Police Department was called to an an accident in the 400 block of 7th Avenue. The vehicle which struck the other vehicle, fled the scene. The driver whose vehicle was struck followed the suspect vehicle until officers got behind it and tried to intiate a traffic stop. The driver, Davell Shaw, age 21 of Mason City, did not stop for the squad car and continued on until he got behind a motel in the 1000 block of South Grand Avenue. Shaw was arrested and charged with driving without a license, leaving an accident scene, no insurance, and failure to yield to emergency vehicle. Ryan Brewer, age 23 of Charles City, was also arrested and charged with driving while suspended, operating a non-registered motorcycle, and no insurance.

Total damage to the vehicles as a result of the accident was estimated at $2,500.

Shaw was sent to live in the not-so-prestigious Beje Clark halfway house in Mason City back in 2016 after he was convicted of felony burglary – a charge brought by Charles City police in December of 2015.  Shaw has also been known to carry a dangerous weapon.
