Belmond woman sentenced after regional crime spree; cohort to take plea deal

MASON CITY – A Belmond woman who took part in what amounted to a crime spree stretching from Rockwell to Worth county was sentenced in Cerro Gordo county court Tuesday.

The trouble for 27-year-old Leah Sue Stout began on Saturday, February 11, 2017 at about 9:47 AM, when the Cerro Gordo Sheriff’s Office responded to a report of a stolen vehicle at 5596 Raven Avenue SE of Rockwell. At about 10:40 AM, the Cerro Gordo sheriff’s office received a report of a suspicious vehicle at 15341 340th Street in Manly. Upon investigation, the stolen vehicle from Rockwell was recovered at the Manly address. It was also discovered that the Manly residence had been broken into and another vehicle had been stolen. Information on the stolen vehicle was sent to area agencies and Worth county law enforcement located the vehicle at Diamond Jo Casino in Northwood. As a result of cooperation between the Cerro Gordo sheriff’s office and the Worth county sheriff’s office, two arrests were made at the Diamond Jo Casino: 39-year-old Jeremy Noah of Mason City and 27-year-old Leah Stout of Belmond.

Both Noah and Stout were taken to the Cerro Gordo County Jail class D felony charges of second-degree theft (2 counts) and third-degree burglary. Stout was also charged with ongoing criminal conduct.

In April, the charges against Stout were amended by a judge; the charge of ongoing criminal conduct was dismissed. In a plea deal, a charge of second-degree theft was changed to second-degree theft of a motor vehicle and the other charge of second-degree theft was changed to operating a vehicle without the owner’s consent. She also pled guilty to third-degree theft. She was sentenced to suspended prison sentences of 2 years, 2 years and 5 years ; 3-5 years of probation; ordered to pay $720.88 in court charges and costs; and suspended fines. Stout was also guilty of felony forget and given another suspended 5-year prison sentence, more probation and $560.44 in court costs and fees. She still faces theft, forgery and burglary charges in Wright county at this time.

Noah is a convicted domestic abuser who failed out of the Beje Clark halfway house in Mason City. He entered a guilty plea on May 16 in connection to this crime spree. There will be a plea hearing on June 12. He has been released from jail for inpatient treatment, court records show.
