MASON CITY – A Mason City woman who earlier racked up thousands of dollars in fraudulent credit card purchases is back in jail after a theft crime.
Jacqueline Abernathy – formerly known as Jacqueline Hollenbach – is behind bars today, serving a 2-day sentence for theft. Mason City police charged her with third-degree theft after a crime back in November of 2016. In a plea deal, she was guilty go just fifth-degree theft and was sentence to 2 days in jail and $225.00 in court costs and fees.
Back in 2014, Abernathy plead guilty to felony theft and was sentenced to a 10-year suspended prison sentence, a suspended $1,000 fine, and three years of probation. She was also assessed $455.00 in court costs and fees. A five-year no-contact order was also imposed between Abernathy and the victim. Other two charges were dismissed. Police said that Abernathy had been aiding a person with some medical issues since approximately May of 2013. During this time, Abernathy allegedly applied for a credit card in that person’s name, without their knowledge or consent. She still owes over $8,000 to Iowa courts in that case.
