Convicted meth dealer busted at Mason City rental house near police station

MASON CITY – A convicted meth dealer was busted on arrest warrants Saturday night just a block from the police station in Mason City.

Mason City police were dispatched for an incomplete 911 call to 102 South Connecticut Avenue, a rental property owned by Kent Rentals, on Saturday night, April 22 at about 8:18 PM. At the house, officers encountered 42-year-old Sammie Tremayne Watters, a convicted methamphetamine dealer and user. He was arrested on a valid Cerro Gordo County warrant and taken to the county jail and held on $10,000 bond.

Watters was convicted of felony delivery of meth back in March of 2015 after an earlier arrest by Mason City police. Watters entered a guilty plea to delivery of methamphetamine and the district court granted him a deferred judgment and placed him on probation for a period of three years. As special conditions of probation, Watters was required to abstain from all controlled substances, not associate with persons known to have a criminal record, actively seek and maintain full-time employment, and comply with a plan of restitution. The district court revoked his deferred judgment after at least two violations and sentenced Watters to a term of imprisonment not to exceed ten years, waiving the mandatory one-third minimum sentence.

He appealed his sentence, but was unsuccessful; how he remained free since he lost his appeal in 2016 is unclear.

He appears to now owe $7,357.90 in the case to Iowa courts.

Watters, Sammie Tremayne
