MASON CITY – A wanted man saw police and tried to run away, but was caught and arrested on numerous felony fraud charges.

On April 8, 2017, at 10:42 PM, Mason City police officers observed a subject take off running from uniformed officers who were in the area of the 1000 block of South Illinois Avenue on a different matter. Officers caught and detained the subject, 34-year-old Jeffery Baumann of Mason City. Baumann had multiple valid arrest warrants for Forgery and Lottery Theft. Baumann is accused of allegedly passing multiple stolen and forged checks to numerous Mason City businesses in the late fall of 2016. Baumann allegedly used some of the stolen forged checks to purchase lottery tickets, leading to at least 5 lottery theft charges and upwards of 8 fraud charges.

Baumann was arrested on the warrants on April 8 and jailed that evening. He awaits a hearing next week as he remains in jail on bond.
