SHEFFIELD – The City of Sheffield announced today that it has been awarded a $500,000 CDBG (Community Development Block Grant) from the Iowa Economic Development Authority to go towards a water main replacement project.
The city intends to replace and install a 6″ and 8″ water main, storm sewer. The state of Iowa awarded $500,000 to go with $877,000 from other sources for project.
Also to be done is pavement restoration, sitework and other miscellaneous extras.
The Community Development Block Grant program is federally funded through the U.S. Department of Housing and Urban Development (HUD). The Iowa Economic Development Authority (IEDA) is responsible for administering the CDBG funds in the non-metropolitan areas of the state.
IEDA received 21 applications totaling $8.6 million in funding requests from around the state and awarded $5.6 million.
There was no “award”. That’s taxpayer money being given back to taxpayers
