CHARLES CITY – A Charles City man allegedly made a bad move in traffic, refused to stop, and later interfered with police who then took him to jail.
Charles City police say the incident took place on March 2 at about 3:48 PM, when officers took a report of a hot-and-run accident that happened in the 100 block of South Main Street. The investigation showed that a 2005 Chevy Silverado driven by 55-year-old Douglas Crooks of Charles City was driving on South Main Street in the outside lane when he attempted to pass a 2001 Chevy Impala driven by Darrin Bunston. Crooks sideswiped Bunston’s vehicle but refused to stop for the accident.
Later, at about 5:49 PM, police officers went to a residence at the 800 block of Beck Street and encountered Crooks, who allegedly interfered with the officer. Crooks was arrested for interference with official acts, leaving the scene of an accident and failure to maintain control.
