Man charged with domestic abuse released from jail, claims he planned to shoot himself and victim

MASON CITY – A Mason City man who was recently arrested after an allegedly violent domestic assault has been released from jail and claims his plans to shoot himself and the victim were thwarted because he couldn’t find a gun.

The incident took place Saturday, December 17, 2016.  A victim fled the scene where 34-year-old Cory Lee Craig had inflicted physical harm and refused to let the victim leave. Mason City police were called and later apprehended Craig. He was charged with felony domestic assault due to the fact he has been charged at least three times earlier with that offense. Due to his alleged act of confining the victim and refusing to allow the victim to leave, he was charged with false imprisonment.

Records show Craig entered a not guilty plea, posted $1,000 bond on January 4 and was released from the county jail.

Soon after his release from jail, a social media post Cory Lee Craig  apparently wrote gives graphic detail on his possible intentions during the alleged violent incident he was just released from jail for.

“My intentions that evening we’re (sic) never fulfilled,” Craig appears to have posted to his social media. “I was going to shoot use (sic) both in the head but the means to do so was hidden from me thank God.”

Craig remains free at this time, but NIT is told that authorities have been alerted to this potentially dangerous situation.

Cory Lee Craig has faced felony domestic abuse assault at least two times prior, as well as a host of other crimes.

Other than his spelling, he is an incredibly unstable man and has drug issues of his own. I doubt he was sober when he typed that!

Matt- your article was vague to protect the victim (+) but then you repost his FB post and don’t black out her name in his insane rant!
For shame

Another public school spelling & grammar success.

Sounds like the woman needs more help – drugs – If I were him I would disapear and far – make a new life – the druggie and her kids will be liberalized and live better on welfare.

And this unstable criminal is out on the streets ! That woman better have a bouncer at home !
