CHARLES CITY – A Charles City man who was accused of raping a woman back in 2008 was able to work a plea deal in court to a lesser charge.
Eric M. Hill, age 31, was charged in a 2008 sexual incident in Charles City in which it was alleged that he used an object to threaten a women after he entered her home and then commit a sexual assault. He was charged with second-degree sexual abuse, a felony.
After a long court process, Hill was to stand a second trial this January after a jury failed to convict him this summer. However, on January 4, Hill entered a guilty plea to a lesser charge of assault causing bodily injury or mental illness and was given a deferred judgement. This sentence includes one year of probation and $1,603.91 in fines and court costs.
