MASON CITY – A Mason City man drove drunk and plowed into a parked car, causing thousands of dollars in damage, and got a plea deal out of the incident.
Mason City police say that on June 18 at 10:51 PM, a collision was reported in the 1000 block of Maple Drive. The driver, Robert William Watson, age 28 of Mason City, had struck a parked car at this location while southbound on Maple Drive. Police responded and investigated the collision at the scene. Watson was arrested for second-offense operating while intoxicated and Failure to Maintain Control.
Damage for both cars was estimated at $13,000 total.
In November, Watson struck a plea deal. He pled guilty to a reduced charge of first-offense operating while intoxicated. He was given a 365-day jail sentence with all but 2 days suspended. His license was revoked and he must pay $1,923.50 in fines and court fees.
Watson had been on probation from a 2015 guilty plea to unauthorized use of a credit card up to $1,000. Not long after his drunk driving accident, Watson was accused of violating his probation and in November, he was found guilty. He was given a 7-day jail sentence and a $625.00 fine.
