Burglar gets prison sentence after multiple crimes

MASON CITY – A Mason City man burglarized several businesses and has been sent to prison.

Mason City police officers discovered that Tailgaters Bar, located at 627 South Federal Avenue, had been recently broken into at around 5:30 AM Friday morning, September 2, 2016. The burglary investigation led to the arrest of Johnny Lee Baugh, age 52 of Mason City, shortly before 9:00 AM that day.

Baugh was jailed for burglary in the 3rd degree, a class D felony, and held for bond at the Cerro Gordo County Jail. A search warrant was also executed at Baugh’s residence this morning.

Baugh was later charged with a string of other burglaries in the North Iowa area. He entered into a plea deal in November. At sentencing on December 12, Baugh was given 5-year prison sentences on all 5 counts of third-degree burglary. He was ordered to pay $6,420.39 in restitution with the possibility of more. He has already been sent to the Iowa Medical and Classification Center in Coralville for processing.
