Possible domestic argument leads to arrest of Charles City man

CHARLES CITY – Police investigated a possible domestic argument and after a search, found a man in a car who was then jailed.

The incident took place November 7 at about 10:51 AM, when the Charles City police department took a report of a possible domestic argument going on in a vehicle leaving the 1900 block of Salzer Street. The vehicle left that location before officers arrived, but was then located in the area of 8th Avenue. A traffic stop was conducted on the vehicle in question. After an investigation, officers arrested 36-year-old John Garza of Charles City on charges of failure to use a turn signal, no proof of insurance and driving with a suspended license. Police records show that officers with the Charles City police department, on June 29, 2015, investigated a drunk driving incident. A criminal complaint was filed against Garza for first-offense operating while intoxicated. However, after at least two warrants were issued for Garza’s arrest since then, the case appears to be stalled in court, with no proceedings taking place since March of this year.

Garza was taken to the Floyd county jail and entered a guilty plea that same day. He was ordered to pay $397.50 in fines and court fees on the charge of driving with a suspended license, and $195.00 for failing to use a turn signal.

In April, Garza was caught for the same offense – driving with a suspended license – in Worth county and entered a guilty plea, which cost him $796.88 in fines and court fees.

Garza was caught stealing in Mason City back on the afternoon of April 9, 2015. He pled guilty the next day and was ordered to pay $320.00 in fines and court fees. Records show, he never made a payment on that balance.
