SAC COUNTY, IOWA – An Iowa woman suffered fatal injuries after a gun went off in a car she was driving.
Sac County Sheriff’s Office and the Iowa Division of Criminal Investigation are investigating a shooting that has claimed the life of a 24-year old female from Guthrie Center, Iowa.
The shooting was reported at 11:38 a.m. on Sunday September 18, 2016 and occurred just north of the intersection of Hwy 175 on Hwy 71 east of Lake View, Iowa. A male front seat passenger was handling a loaded 9mm handgun when the gun reportedly accidently discharged. The bullet struck the 24-year old female who was the driver. She was taken to Loring Hospital in Sac City. She was airlifted to a Des Moines hospital where she died of her injures.
The identities of those involved are currently being withheld pending additional investigation and autopsy results.
Responding to the scene was the Sac County Sheriff’s Office, Lake View Police, Lake View Ambulance and Lake View Fire.
All persons are presumed innocent until proven guilty in a court of law.
