Two teens injured when pickup strikes bridge

cerro gordo county sheriffs officeRURAL CERRO GORDO COUNTY – Two teens where injured when the driver of a pickup truck struck a bridge, causing the vehicle to roll and trap the occupants inside.

The Cerro Gordo County Sheriff’s Office reports that the accident took place Saturday, September 17 at about 5:36 PM, when they responded to a single vehicle accident in the 9000 Block of 300th Street Northeast of Clear Lake.

According to the sheriff’s office, 16-year-old Drew Brown of Leland was Eastbound on 300th Street when his 1997 Dodge Ram truck struck the bridge. The truck guided across the rail of the bridge before stricking the ditch and rolling. trapping both Brown and his 16-year-old passenger William Kirschbaum II of Thompson inside. The Clear Lake Fire Department had to use the Jaws of Life to extricated both subjects. Brown and Kirschbaum were wearing seatbelts at the time of the accident.

Brown was transported by Mason City Fire Medics and Kirschbaum was transported by Mercy Air Med to Mercy Medical Center North Iowa.

The accident remains under investigation with charges pending.

Assisting the Cerro Gordo County Sheriffs Department was the Iowa State Patrol, Clear Lake Fire Department, Mason City Fire Medics and Mercy Air Med.
