NIACC’s Khat earns athlete of week honor by USTFCCCA

MASON CITY – NIACC sophomore Wal Khat has been selected as the NJCAA Division I athlete of the week by the United States Track and Field and Cross Country Coaches Association.

Khat, who is from Mooseheart, Ill., placed third overall and second in the college division at the Augustana College Twilight Invitational last Friday. Khat covered the four-mile course in 18 minutes, 57 seconds.

Other USTFCCCA male winners were Florida State’s Harry Mulenga (NCAA Division I), Missouri Southern’s Vincent Kiprop (NCAA Division II), Gordon’s Damon Kilgore (NCAA Division III) and Suffolk CC’s Ryan Evans (NJCAA Division III).

The NIACC men’s cross country team returns to action Saturday at the Grinnell Invitational.
