MASON CITY – Bishop Demetrios of Mokissos, Chancellor of the Greek Orthodox Metropolis of Chicago, will officiate Sunday Services at Holy Transfiguration Church in Mason City on Sunday, August 7, beginning 9:30am.

Senior Iowa United States Senator Chuck Grassley has been invited to join Bishop Demetrios at Sunday Service in Mason City. Senator Grassley is currently Chairman of the Judiciary Committee and also sits on Finance Committee and Agriculture, Nutrition and Forestry Committee. Senator Grassley has been an active participant in the National Prayer Breakfast.

Bishop Demetrios of Mokissos servers as the Chancellor of the Metropolis of Chicago, under the leadership of Metropolitan Iakovos of Chicago. In his position, he travels throughout the Metropolis of Chicago to visit most of the parishes annually. He has received nationwide recognition for his human rights activities and interfaith outreach, including his leadership in ending the death penalty in Illinois, state resolutions calling for Religious Freedom for the Ecumenical Patriarchate of Constantinople, and just recently this year official recognition by the United States of the Genocide by ISIS against the Christian minority population of Syria and Iraq.

The Metropolis of Chicago oversees all Greek Orthodox Parishes within Illinois, Iowa, Wisconsin, and Minnesota, as well as large portions of Missouri and Indiana. You can find more information on His Grace Bishop Demetrios and the Greek Orthodox Metropolis of Chicago on their website.

Bishop Demetrios will officiate Holy Liturgy at Holy Transfiguration at 1311 Second Street SW in Mason City starting at 9:30am.  A reception will be held immediately following Sunday Service at the church. Interviews with Bishop Demetrios, Parish Priest Father Joseph Mirowski, and others can be held during the reception following Sunday Service around 11:30am.

The general public is always welcomed to church services.
