Charles City man jailed for drunk driving and child endangerment

WAVERLY, IOWA – A convicted drunk driver out of Charles City was caught a second time, this time with kids in the car.

The Bremer County Sheriff’s Office reports that on July 30, deputies with that agency conducted a traffic stop on a vehicle after a report of a possible intoxicated driver northbound on Highway 218.

Further investigation led to the arrest of Prescott Paul Payne, age 36, of Charles City for Operating While Intoxicated 2nd Offense and two counts of Child Endangerment. This typically means that children were inside the car at the time of the incident.

Payne was guilty of drunk driving previously in 2008 and paid over $3,600 in fines and court fees. He was recently on probation for drug possession in Chickasaw county.

At least he was put in jail, although for how long. Doesn’t all that somehow violate his probation?

It seems he was arrested and charged but not convicted of this offense…at least, not yet.
