MASON CITY – A Mason City man remains behind bars after pleading guilty in a sexual assault case and soon will be sentenced.
Mason City police officers responded to a residence in the 700 block of North Pennsylvania just after 1:00 AM Wednesday morning April 13 on a complaint of a violation of a court order. Further investigation revealed that an adult female had been sexually assaulted by a person known to her.
The investigation led to the arrest of 41-year-old Michael Eugene Carter of Mason City for third-degree sexual abuse (a class C felony) and violation of a no-contact order. Carter has remained held in the Cerro Gordo County Jail on $50,000 bond since his arrest.
In May, Carter and his public defender entered a guilty plea. He awaits sentencing on July 19 and could face a prison term for his crime. The no-contact order violation was dismissed on April 19, court records show.
