Iowa postal employee to be sentenced for stealing

DUNKERTON, IOWA – An Iowa woman who was accused of stealing money from her employer, the US Postal service, has pleaded guilty and will be sentenced.

On March 2, 2016 the Black Hawk County Sheriff’s Office received information from the Office of the Inspector General who had completed an investigation into the Dunkerton, Iowa Post Office at the request of the United States Postal Service.

An investigation showed that Susan Knapp, age 41 of 203 Wilmot Avenue in Readlyn, Iowa, while working as a Postal Clerk at the Dunkerton Post Office had pocketed Postal Service funds in the amount of $2,724.54 from the sale of money orders and stamps for her own personal use. This occurred between March and October of 2015. Ms. Knapp had been suspended from the postal service.

A Sheriff’s Investigator applied for and was granted an Arrest Warrant charging Knapp with Theft in the Second Degree. Knapp was located by the Bremer County Sheriff’s Office at her residence and was extradited back to Black Hawk County and taken to the Black Hawk County Jail in Waterloo where she posted a bond of $15,000.00.

According to federalpay.org, in 2014, Knapp was a Sales,service/distribution Associate at the U.S. Postal Service in Dunkerton, Iowa. Knapp began working at the U.S. Postal Service in 2014 with a starting salary of $59,859. Since then, Knapp’s salary decreased to $38,584 in 2014. Knapp was a PH-06 under the usps, hourly rate pay scale.

Knapp is set to be sentenced for the theft on July 25.
