Single auto accident with injuries reported Tuesday

ambulanceMASON CITY – An Iowa man was hurt in a single-vehicle accident early Tuesday morning in Cerro Gordo county.

The accident took place Tuesday morning, May 10, 2016 at about 7:30 AM on Highway 18 at the 191 mile marker. A 2008 Chevrolet Impala being operated by Gary Decker, age 75 of Cedar Rapids, was traveling westbound on Highway 18. Decker drove onto the south shoulder of the road and swerved the vehicle back onto roadway. The evasive action caused Decker to lose control of the vehicle striking the bridge in that location. The vehicle then came to stop striking the guard rail of the bridge.

Decker was transported to Mercy Hospital by Mason City Fire Medics with non-life threatening injures. A passenger, Kelly Wilson, age 44 of Cedar Rapids, was evaluted at the accident scene by Mason City Fire Medics and not transported to the Hospital.

This accident remains under investigation.

Cerro Gordo County Sheriff’s Office was assisted by Mason City Police, Iowa State Patrol, Nora Springs Fire and Mason City Fire Medics.
