MASON CITY – A Mason City man who already faced a charge of felony third offense drunk driving in the past was caught intoxicated behind the wheel again.

A Cerro Gordo deputy stopped a car at 12:43 AM April 4 near Federal Avenue and Nature Center Road, on the north side of town. The deputy investigated and saw that the driver, 46-year-old Daniel Lewis Monson, allegedly had an open container of alcohol. Further investigation led to the arrest of Monson on a charge of second offense operating while intoxicated, open container of alcohol, and littering. He was taken to the county jail, booked, and soon released. He now awaits a court date later this month.

Manson is no stranger to consuming booze, driving a car and then ending up behind bars. In 2007, he was charged with felony third offense operating while intoxicated in Cerro Gordo county after a deputy arrested him. Monson was able to plead that down to first offense.

He might have gotten his previous sentence reduced but it still stays on his record. I believe it stay on the record for 12 years now. Obviously, he didn’t learn a thing the last time. This guy will just continue to do what ever he wants including driving without a license.

At some point, this person will be involved in an accident and an innocent person will end up permanently disabled or even killed. Chronic DUI offenders have no self control. Put this person into a controlled situation so that society is not a victim to his lack of self control.
