MASON CITY – This is why we have police.
No one was hurt, and no arrests were made, but police were summoned to the Mason City library, 225 2nd St SE, when a woman was spotted with a dangerous weapon.
NIT is told by library staff that a woman was outside of the library on the sidewalk, “wielding a very large knife”. She was talking with friends and pretending to stab them with said knife.
Police were called, and “she left before we could get to her,” Library Director Mary Markwalter said.
Police said the incident unfolded around 3:02 PM. A police spokesman confirmed that a female with a large knife was seen threatening a man. He happened to be riding an adult tricycle around her in the library parking lot.
By the time police officers arrived, the female had gotten in a minivan and left the scene. The male did not report any crime and was also gone when officers arrived.
Police will be watching the library for any future disturbances.
