Bernie Sanders is surging past Hillary

Bernie Sanders is surging past Hillary

HAMDEN, CONNECTICUT – Hillary is slipping fast in Iowa, the latest poll numbers indicate.

The Iowa Democratic Caucus is going down to the wire as Vermont Sen. Bernie Sanders wins the support of 49 percent of likely Democratic Caucus participants, with 44 percent for former Secretary of State Hillary Clinton and 4 percent for former Maryland Gov. Martin O’Malley, according to a Quinnipiac University poll released today.

This compares to the results of a December 15 survey by the independent Quinnipiac (KWIN-uh-pe-ack) University showing Clinton at 51 percent, with 40 percent for Sanders.

Today, 3 percent are undecided and only 20 percent of those who name a candidate say they might change their mind.

There is a yawning gender gap as men back Sanders 61 – 30 percent, with 6 percent for O’Malley, while women back Clinton 55 – 39 percent, with 3 percent for O’Malley.

Sanders also has a big lead on favorability as likely Democratic Caucus participants give him an 87 – 3 percent favorability rating, compared to Clinton’s 74 – 21 percent score.

But 85 percent of Democrats say Clinton would have a good chance of winning in November, while 68 percent say Sanders has a good chance of winning the main event.

“Iowa may well become Sen. Bernie Sanders’ ‘Field of Dreams,’ said Peter A. Brown, assistant director of the Quinnipiac University Poll.

“After three months of Secretary Hillary Clinton holding an average 10-point lead among Iowa Democrats, the playing field has changed.

“Sen. Sanders’ surge seems based on the perception by Iowa Democrats that he is a better fit for Iowans. They see him, by solid double digit margins as more sharing their values, more honest and trustworthy and viewed more favorably overall than is Secretary Clinton.”

“Iowa likely Democratic Caucus-goers see Sanders as better able to handle the economy and climate change, two important issues for Democrats and a key asset for him in the home stretch,” Brown added.

“The Democratic race is different than the GOP contest because it lacks a divisive tone. Iowa Democrats like both major candidates personally; they just like Sen. Sanders more.

“While former Maryland Gov. Martin O’Malley has been an also-ran in the race, his handful of supporters could be crucial if the Sanders-Clinton race goes down to the wire.”

The economy and jobs is the most important issue for 35 percent of Iowa likely Democratic Caucus participants in deciding their vote, as 15 percent list health care; 11 percent cite climate change and 9 percent say foreign policy.

Sanders can best handle the economy, 51 percent of Democrats say, while 39 percent say Clinton can do better on this issue.

Sanders also leads 51 – 32 percent on handling climate change.

Clinton has a huge 70 – 23 percent lead on handling foreign policy and another big 63 – 24 percent lead handling terrorism. She has a narrow 48 – 43 percent lead on health care.

Sanders also leads Clinton on most character traits as Democratic Caucus-goers say:
93 – 3 that he is honest and trustworthy, compared to Clinton’s 66 – 29 percent score:
89 – 9 percent that Clinton has strong leadership qualities, compared to Sanders’ 87 – 7 percent leadership rating;
96 – 1 percent that Sanders cares about their needs and problems, compared to Clinton’s 76 – 21 percent score;
89 – 10 percent that Clinton has the right experience to be president, with Sanders at 74 – 17 percent;
88 – 7 percent that Sanders shares their values, with Clinton at 72 – 24 percent.
From January 5 – 10, Quinnipiac University surveyed 492 Iowa likely Democratic Caucus participants with a margin of error of +/- 4.4 percentage points. Live interviewers call land lines and cell phones.

    Among other things, during the 1970s and ’80s, Sanders regularly called for public takeovers of various businesses, including utilities and the oil industry. Sanders advocated seizing money from corporations and from one of America’s richest families. And, as a mayor, Sanders made forays into foreign policy that included meetings with representatives of hostile nations, rebel groups and Canadian separatists.

    LVS is a victim of cold war propaganda. What he says about Bernie Sanders is ridiculous. Socialism and even communism are not dirty words. They are very beautiful Christian based philosophies which seek to care for all the world’s inhabitants. Nothing says you can’t strive and excel while another has shelter and something to eat. Bernie Sanders is Jewish the opposite of communism. social For the people) democrat (by the people) has nothing to do with old national socialism or communism. If you attended a public school, military, social security, all examples of democratic socialism. Remember that a word can have more than one meaning.

        It should not be the responsibility of taxpayers to fund your “living wage.” Welfare should be repealed. Minimum wage was never meant to be a living wage. You lazy bums just want everything handed to you, rather than getting a job that pays more than minimum wage.

          Taxpayers shouldn’t have to subsidize living wage. Correct. So what is a “living wage”? This time try not to avoid the question. Lets start talking about the problem and cease talking about who’s fault it is. How much is enough to feed, clothe, and house yourself on your own with transportation to work and healthcare? Why can’t ALL employers pay a living wage for the work they require of their employees?

            A living wage would be determined partially by a persons lifestyle. It is not up for me to decide what is a living wage. I am just saying that if minimum wage is not enough for a person or family, maybe a job that pays more is in order. I would agree that minimum wage is not enough to live on, but 15.00 an hour, imagine what will happen to the cost of goods and services. It would mean employers would not be able to employ as many workers. It is time for people to take control of their own destiny.

            Since minimum wage earners represent < 10% of the workforce, I would say there would be a slight increase in the cost of goods and services. A living wage is what you can live on. Period. It does not refer to "a lifestyle to which you have become accustomed to". You need to eat, have clothing, get medical attention WHEN you get sick, and should be able to work and get to and from said job. THAT is a living wage. Above and beyond that, you will need to put forth effort on your part to rise above your situation.

            A slight increase in the cost of goods and services? Just because less than 10 percent of the workforce earns minimum wage, it does not mean that a 15.00 an hour minimum wage would not have serious impacts businesses. The cost has to be passed on to somebody. Sanders wants to almost double the minimum wage, all of a sudden 15.00 an hour is not what it is today. Minimum wage is not meant to live on. There are many great jobs available that employers are not able to fill, so anybody willing to work should have no problem.

            So feel free to answer me any one of these times I ask. What is a living wage? If someone isn’t skilled or smart or cannot afford an education, should they be doomed to poverty or do they deserve a living wage? If so, what is that amount, per hour, without financial aid from the state or government. If you would QUIT avoiding the question maybe WE could start to come up with an answer.

            I’m sure you will have a smart comment, but in my opinion 10.00 an hour would be an appropriate living wage, it will not make a person rich, but will give them $1600 per month. Not meaning to be a jerk, but minimum wage is not meant to live on. I just think $15 an hour is too high and will cause problems, increased prices.

          $10/hr is a good start. With 25% going to taxes. $500 for rent or mortgage. $50/week for food. $200 for heat/elec/water/and garbage. That leaves $300/month for transportation, health insurance, clothing and incidentals. While that is without state aid, it is not a living wage. It is only a suriving wage. But I like that you threw out a number we could start with!

      The right chooses to ignore collateral positive effects of proposals from the left while sticking like glue to the vague and disproved notion that if you give the wealthy tax breaks, the benefits will trickle down to the middle class and poor.
      Except that’s never once happened.

    But what difference, at this point, does it make?

    I require your vote because: I am a woman (and married to Bill). It is my turn. It is my due. I am ENTITLED!! Hey, this was supposed to be my coronation!!!

    Also, your blind devotion is needed now more than ever because my brain-dead sycophants in the Democrat party may ensure my nomination if I am not indicted first, but the general election does look bad for me because too many Democrats and independents continue to wise up about me hourly.

    And lastly, if I have one undeniably positive achievement, no one has a freaking clue as to what it might be, unless it is that I have vowed to never utter the words “radical Islamist terrorists” or “illegal immigrants,” or that I believe the Second Amendment right to bear arms is something Obama and I are ordained to ignore at will.
