gunFORT DOGE – A man was walking down the street when, Fort Dodge police say, two black males wearing hoodies approached him, demanded money, and shot him when he refused to pay up.

On Tuesday, December 8, 2015, at approx 12:17 AM, Officers with the Fort Dodge Police Department were dispatched to the 800 block of 3rd Avenue North for an individual who had been shot. When officers arrived on scene, they met with the victim Steven Burns, who had a gunshot wound to his hip.

Through the course of the investigation, it was found that Mr. Burns was walking in the 800 block of 3rd Ave North when two younger, black males wearing dark colored hoodies approached him and demanded money. When Mr. Burns refused, at least one of the subjects fired a handgun at him. Burns was able to run to a nearby residence where the owner called 911.

Police say they believe someone may have witnessed the incident or observed where the suspects ran to, and asked for the public’s help in identifying the suspects involved. Anyone with information is urged to contact the Fort Dodge Police Department at (515) 573-1424.
