U.S. diplomat calls Iraqi Prime Minister Mustafa al-Kadhimi to discuss Iranian missile attack:
03/14/2022 06:47 AM EDT
Office of the Spokesperson
The following is attributable to Spokesperson Ned Price:
Secretary of State Antony J. Blinken spoke yesterday with Iraqi Prime Minister Mustafa al-Kadhimi. Secretary Blinken condemned the Iranian missile attacks near Erbil that violated Iraq’s sovereignty and expressed solidarity with the Iraqi people. The Secretary and the Prime Minister agreed the attack demonstrates the need for Iraqi unity and the urgency of forming a government accountable to the Iraqi people that protects Iraq’s territorial integrity. The Secretary conveyed the U.S. commitment to working with the Iraqi government and others in the region to hold Iran accountable.
Hillary was right. About everything.
FROM US STATE DEPARTMENT:
The United States strongly condemns the missile strikes on Erbil, Iraq last night that emanated from Iran. The strikes were an outrageous violation of Iraq’s sovereignty. No U.S. facilities were damaged or personnel injured, and we have no indications the attack was directed at the United States. Iran must immediately cease its attacks, respect Iraqi sovereignty, and halt its interference in Iraq’s internal affairs. The United States stands with our Iraqi partners, including in the Kurdistan Region, and will help our partners in the region defend themselves.
Steps of opinions on Hitler:
1: Hating Hitler for committing the holocaust
2: Being ambivalent to Hitler because the holocaust wasn’t real/greatly exaggerated
3: Liking Hitler because what he said about the Jews was true
4: Disappointment in Hitler because he knew about the Jews yet didn’t go through with the holocaust
IOWA DNR says drought continues in state:
Last month was the sixth driest February on record for Iowa, and the lack of precipitation resulted in the expansion of drought conditions across the state, according to the latest Water Summary Update.
Precipitation for the month averaged only 0.27 inches, almost an inch below normal. Drought conditions expanded during the month, with more than 90 percent of Iowa in some form of dryness or drought at the end of February. Areas of concern for shallow groundwater supplies exist in parts of northwest Iowa.
“Precipitation totals in February were disappointing, so instead of steady or improving conditions, we saw expansion of drought conditions in the state,” said Tim Hall, DNR’s coordinator of hydrology resources. “However, the first week of March saw over twice the amount of rain as the entire month of February, so that is encouraging. Hopefully the normal rains of March and April and May will improve conditions as we head into the growing season.”
Streamflow levels are also below normal in many locations across the southern half of the state.
U.S. Chaber of Commerce says Washington must “Focus on Fighting Inflation:”
American families and businesses continue to experience historic levels of inflation. Today, the Bureau of Labor Statistics reported February prices of goods and services rose 0.8%, up 7.9% in the last year, with energy, housing, and food seeing the largest increases.
Why it matters: This is a stark reminder that inflation is one of the most pressing economic challenges we face today and for the foreseeable future. With Russia’s invasion of Ukraine adding to the inflationary pressures, it is time for policymakers to focus on what they can do to reduce rising prices.
But first, the administration must stop blaming business for rising prices. The data is clear, prices are rising for all types of goods and services, driven by constrained supply and increased demand.
Our take: We urge policymakers to focus on three key areas that have a large impact on family budgets and the overall economy: energy, food, and housing.
The administration should partner with domestic energy producers to remove regulatory red tape and make it easier to produce more oil and gas here in America.
Congress and the administration should act now to support American farmers in increasing production, to help offset what will be lost in Ukraine and Russia, including by dealing with rising energy costs and potential fertilizer shortages.
Policymakers need to reduce costs on housing inputs by reducing tariffs and reforming our zoning and permitting laws to make it easier to build new housing where it is needed.
Feds announce new financial support for Ukraine Saturday:
The people of Ukraine are inspiring the world as they defend their country from Russia’s premeditated, unprovoked, and unjustified invasion of their country. The United States and our Allies and partners stand in solidarity with the people and government of Ukraine in the face of the Kremlin’s aggression.
Exercising the additional authority provided in the extension of the continuing resolution, I have immediately authorized today, pursuant to a delegation by the President, a fourth Presidential Drawdown of up to $200 million for additional military assistance for Ukraine’s defense. This package will include further defensive assistance to help Ukraine meet the armored, airborne, and other threats it is facing. This drawdown will bring the total security assistance provided by the United States to Ukraine to more than $1.2 billion since the beginning of the Administration.
