Habitual drunk driver faces felony willful injury charge after allegedly stabbing man

MASON CITY – A Mason City woman is facing a felony willful injury charge for stabbing a man in the leg, even as she battles multiple drunk driving charges in court.

According to Mason City police, on September 3, 2015, at 12:30 AM, 31-year-old Amber Ann Ward is accused of allegedly stabbing a male subject in the thigh with a sharp object while threatening to kill him. The incident occurred in the 300 block of 1st Steet SW. Police were called to the scene, but Ward was gone when officers arrived. Mason City fire medics rendered first aid at the scene but the victim declined ambulance transport. The victim did go to the hospital for followup care. His wounds did not appear to be life threatening, police said.

After completing the investigation, an arrest warrant was applied for Ward charging her with Willful Injury (D Felony) and Aggravated Domestic Assault (Aggravated Misdemeanor). War was located on the afternoon of September 11 at 702 9th Street NE and arrested. She is being held in the county jail on $7,000 bond as she awaits a hearing on September 18.

Ward has now entered a guilty plea to third offense felony drunk driving and awaits a sentencing hearing on September 21. That arrest took place on April 3 in Mason City. She was also arrested on March 5 for drunk driving. She is pleading guilty and will also be sentenced on September 21. Ward plead guilty to second offense operating while intoxicated in February of this year after an arrest on, ironically, September 21 of 2014.
