SPIRIT LAKE – A pilot had to make an emergency landing on a rural Northern Iowa highway after he ran out of gas.

According to the Dickinson County Sheriff’s Office, on August 13th, 2015 at around 6 PM, the Dickinson County Sheriff’s Office received multiple calls about an airplane on the roadway in the 2900 block of A31 west of N14. One of the calls received was from the Storm Lake Airport advising that the airplane had to make an emergency landing.

The pilot, John Walker of Waterloo, ran out of fuel and had to make an emergency landing. Walker landed the airplane safely, the sheriff’s office said.

The road was temporarily shut down while Walker went to get some fuel. After refueling the airplane, Walker flew the airplane to the Okoboji Airport.

No further information was available.
