MASON CITY – A North Iowa man still dealing with a sexual assault charge in Mason City has been sent to jail for 30 days in an assault case.

Mark Allan Johnson, age 30, was arrested and charged in March with third degree sexual abuse for a crime Mason City police say took place on May 30, 2014 against a female victim. They said the 10-month gap between the incident in question and the arrest and charge was due to a long investigation. After an initial not guilty plea, a plea change hearing in that case is set for July 7.

Johnson, who is a convicted car burglar, was also charged with interference causing injury. Johnson allegedly assaulted jail staff on the afternoon of March 31, and was cited for Interference with official acts resulting in injury. On June 2, Johnson entered a guilty plea and was sentenced to 30 days in jail, to be served consecutively with any jail time he might receive in the sex abuse case. He was also ordered to submit a DNA sample and must pay $1,033.75 in fines and court fees.
