DECORAH – The Decorah Police Department has just completed a sTEP (Special Traffic Enforcement Program) wave. Ten officers from the Decorah Police Department contributed to the following sTEP wave statistics:
• 2 arrests for Operating While Impaired (OWI) were made
• 6 speeding citations were issued
• 8 property damage traffic accidents were investigated
• 2 personal injury accidents were investigated
• 2 motor vehicle registration violations were cited
• 3 open container citations were issued
• 5 citations were issued for various other traffic offenses
• 7 motorist assists were made by officers
• Approximately 60 other traffic stops were made
Seatbelt usage surveys are performed before and after the sTEP waves. Decorah’s pre-wave seatbelt usage percentage was 90%. The post-wave usage was 91%.
