MASON CITY – A couple was arrested on drug charges as they traveled through Cerro Gordo county Monday evening.
A Cerro Gordo deputy conducted a traffic stop of a vehicle traveling southbound on Interstate 35 near the 200 mile marker at about 7:17 PM Monday, March 9. Inside the vehicle was 39-year-old Dwight Wendell Jones and his wife, 27-year-old Brandy Jo Jones. They did provide police with a Mason City home address, but claim to live in Forest City via social media. The deputy conducted a search of the vehicle and discovered an illegal substance. Dwight Jones was arrested on a charge of possession of an illegal substance with intent to deliver, and Brandy Jones was arrested on possession of an illegal substance. She was soon release from jail, but Dwight Jones remains held on $5,000 bond.
Dwight Jones is a convicted felon out of Minnesota. He claims to work at Winnebago via social media. He has hundreds of dollars of unpaid fines due to Iowa courts. He was accused in 2009 by Mason City police of stealing a car (felony 1st degree theft) but pleaded to a lesser crime.
