CHARLES CITY – A Charles City man who just pleaded guilty earlier this month in a felony drug case and was out of jail awaiting sentencing, crashed his car early Sunday and now stands accused of drunk driving.
Jaiton Mangun, age 21, was driving his black 1999 Pontiac Grand Prix Sunday morning when he crashed the vehicle into a utility pole. The incident took place at the 300 block of E Street at about 4:35 AM. Police responded to the scene and determined that Mangun was injured. The car was a total loss. He was taken to Floyd County Medical Center for his injuries. Police also determined that he was intoxicated and he was later arrested and charged with operating while intoxicated, failure to maintain control, no license, no insurance and no registration. He was soon booked into the county jail and then released.
Mangun pleaded guilty earlier in December in a felony drug case and is awaiting sentencing in January. He was also arrested in August for domestic assault but the charge was dismissed.
In December of 2013, Mangun had charges dismissed of felony D willful injury, felony D conspiracy to commit a felony and aggravated misdemeanor tampering with a witness.
