Two men injured in crash after driver falls asleep at the wheel

logo-iowa-state-patrolADAIR COUNTY – A man fell asleep at the wheel after leaving the Des Moines area on Interstate 80, sending his truck crashing down an embankment into a creek.

According to a report from the Iowa State Patrol, Alan Martin Johnson, age 41 of Milwaukee, Wisconsin, was traveling westbound on Interstate 80 through Adair county at 7:50 AM this morning when he fell asleep at the wheel. His 2014 Freightliner truck left the roadway and entered the north ditch. It continued down the ditch, jumped a deep creek
and crashed head-on into the embankment.

Martin, along with a male passenger, 51-year old Rigoberto Deleon Quiles of Chicago, were trapped inside the truck and had to be freed by mechanical means. Both men were taken to area hospitals with undisclosed injuries.
