MASON CITY – Barbara Hovland was elected as Chair of the Cerro Gordo County GOP, and Daniel Winegarden was elected as Co-Chair, on December 8th at the regularly scheduled meeting of the central committee.
Hovland said, “I have enjoyed building the Republican base in Cerro Gordo county over the last year, opening and working the GOP office in Mason City, hosting several candidates to Cerro Gordo and the successful November election.”
The outgoing Chair, Gabriel Haugland, did not seek re-election. In announcing his decision he said:
“Thank you so much for giving me the honor to serve as your GOP County Chair. Over the last couple years, we’ve accomplished some great things together. We’ve raised resources to help us be more competitive and we were part of a tremendous 2014 election effort that turned the state of Iowa red. Our county party is in a strong position moving forward and I’m very proud of the work that we’ve done to get to where we are today. However, due to the increasing demands on me as a father, Soldier, attorney, entrepreneur, and State Central Committeeman, I have decided not to seek re-election as Cerro Gordo County GOP Chair.
Other officers elected included Clarence Slife as Treasurer and Diana Lage as Secretary.
