Nora Springs man enters guilty plea in sex abuse case

CHARLES CITY  – A Nora Springs man who was scheduled for trial this week on seven charges of sexual abuse in the third degree has entered a guilty plea.

Robbie A. DeMaris, age 39, was charged by Floyd county prosecutors on March 14, 2014 with the crime of felony C sexual abuse in the third degree. A warrant was issued for DeMaris’ arrest on March 17, and he turned himself into police the next day, posted bond and was released from jail as he awaited a trial that was pushed back a number of times.

The alleged abuse was against an adult and took place over a period of months from July 2012 through May of 2013, leading to seven charges.

At an April 1, 2014 arraignment, Demaris was represented by Mason City attorney Joel Yunek and pled not guilty.

However, on November 25, Yunek entered a guilty plea on behalf of DeMaris. Further court proceedings in the matter do not yet appear to be scheduled. NIT will report when more detail is available on the plea and any sentencing that may occur.

DeMaris is married and the owner of R&R Salvage in Nora Springs.
