IOWA CITY – The Iowa Hawkeyes opened the 2014-2015 basketball season with a 90-56 victory over Hampton, and announced a contract extension for coach Fran McCaffery.
Five Hawkeyes scored in double figures, including Aaron White (19), Jared Uthoff (13), Anthony Clemmons (12), Gabe Olaseni (12), and Peter Jok (11).
Uthoff recorded a career high in three pointers made (4) and attempted (5).
Olaseni recorded 4 blocks. He has tallied 3 or more blocks 13 times in his career.
Also Friday, the Iowa Athletic Department announced that coach Fran McCaffery has signed a one-year extension to his current contract.
McCaffery is now signed through the 2019-2020 competitive season. His base salary for the 2014-15 season is $1.8 million, which reflects the previously agreed upon to increase $200,000 after coaching the Hawkeyes to the NCAA Tournament last spring. The amendment to the contract also outlines salary increases for continued success.
“Fran’s passion, commitment, and abilities, continue to move the Hawkeyes in the right direction,” said Athletic Director Gary Barta. “I’m excited about this season and beyond.”
Iowa returns to action Monday when it hosts North Dakota State in another 2K Classic Regional Game. Tip-off is set for 7 p.m. (CT).
