CARUTHERS, CA – For unknown reasons, individuals broke into a Californa farm and used a golf club to beat to death hundreds of chickens.
The Fresno County Sheriff’s Department said Wednesday that investigators are seeking information leading to the capture of suspects responsible for a burglary at a Foster Farms facility during which time several hundred chickens were killed.
According to law enforcement, on September 20, shortly before 8:30 AM, deputies responded to the facility located in Caruthers, California regarding the burglary. The investigation revealed the suspects pulled back a portion of the fence and entered the chicken shed. Once inside, the suspects used a golf club, and possibly another similar type instrument, to slaughter the birds. Foster Farms officials advised nine hundred twenty chickens were killed during the incident. They put the loss at approximately five thousand dollars.
Foster Farms is now offering a reward for information leading to the arrest and prosecution of the persons responsible for the crime. The poultry company says it is an American Humane Certified Program. “To achieve certification, Foster Farms verified that humane conditions are maintained on our farms and ranches 24 hours a day, seven days a week, 365 days a year. The American Humane® Certified label on our products is your assurance that the fresh chicken you are buying was humanely raised.”
There was no known motive for the slaughter of the chickens by the intruders.
