IOWA CITY – School started at the University of Iowa last week, and police on the campus in Iowa City have already issued three warnings about sexual assaults.

According to University police, the first assault occurred on Sunday, August 24, 2014, when University of Iowa officials received a report from a student that she was the victim of non-consensual contact of a sexual nature by an acquaintance that occurred in the late night hours of Friday August 22, 2014 in a residence hall.

On Tuesday, September 2, University police reported that on Sunday, August 31, 2014 University of Iowa Police received a report from a student that she was sexually assaulted by an acquaintance in a residence hall and that on Monday, September 1, 2014 University of Iowa Police received a report from a student that she was sexually assaulted by an acquaintance in an on campus residence.

Earlier this year, University of Iowa President Sally Mason announced in her meeting with the Iowa Board of Regents in Urbandale a “Six-Point Plan to Combat Sexual Assault.” This came after she said that sexual assaults were to be expected on a large college campus and she was heavily criticized for her remarks.  Some still say that the University is not doing enough to prevent sexual assaults on campus, a problem many large colleges and universities face across America.
