Big reward offered by feds in theft of firearms in Spencer

investigateSPENCER, IA – The Bureau of Alcohol, Tobacco, Firearms and Explosives (ATF) in conjunction with the Spencer Police Department and the National Shooting Sports Foundation (NSSF)- the trade association for the firearms industry, today announced a reward for information leading to the arrest and conviction of those responsible for the theft of firearms from Southern Archery, a federally licensed firearms dealer. ATF is offering a reward in the amount of $5,000 which is being matched by the NSSF for a total reward of $10,000.

On July 22, 2014 unknown suspects broke into Southern Archery and stole a large number of firearms from the business. This theft is being investigated jointly by the Spencer Police Department and ATF. Anyone having any information about the theft or the whereabouts of the stolen firearms is urged to call the ATF at 1-800-ATF-GUNS or the Spencer Police Department at (712) 262-2151.

This reward is part of a larger nationwide initiative between the NSSF and ATF in which NSSF matches ATF rewards in cases involving the theft of firearms from federally licensed firearms dealers. This partnership is one of many ways that ATF works closely with industry members to curb the criminal acquisition and misuse of firearms.

ATF is the lead federal law enforcement agency with jurisdiction involving crimes involving firearms and regulates the firearms industry.
